Blackjack Advanced Concepts

A look on advanced tips for blackjack.

So you know the basics and perhaps tried out how the game works, maybe even attempted to master some clever card counting methods. But your arsenal won't be complete unless you know the advanced concepts of this famous game. Here are some of them:

1. Playing safe.
Many players commit the common mistake of going all-out and shoving their hard-earned money straight into the casino's coffers. The concept of playing safe is simply knowing when to wage big and when not to. Don't commit the blunder of risking too much too hasty. When you have lost a quarter of your monthly salary, it's time to call it a day, unless of course you want to spend the next 30 days penniless and starving. Set a limit for the amount you can only afford to lose.

2. Less is more.
A big group sitting at a table does not guarantee safety, at least not in this game that you chose to play. It is applicable for Craps, but not in blackjack. The best odds you can have opposite the dealer is a game just between the two of you. Unsuspecting newbies make the mistake of sitting at an ongoing game with many players, disillusioned by the "safety in numbers," only to find out that it does not ensure safety after all. So the next time you hesitate to have a solitary close encounter with Mr. Dealer, don't.

3. The players and the bets.
Most casino tables have seven separate cubes where players or bettors sit. It is important that you check the sign indicating the smallest betting amount per hand. Sit on the table which fits the type of bettor that you are. In finding a blackjack table, keep an eye on those with a minimum not exceeding five percent of your amount. Also remember that rule versions will aid you in the doubling down options on any game card couple or if the dealer is required to stand on soft 17.

4. To hit or to stand; double or split.
With the rule requiring the dealer to hit on any hand 16 or lower, you don't have a winning chance with a hand lower than 17 unless the dealer busts. Hit when your hand is less than 17 and the dealer has an ace, K, Q, J, 10, nine, or eight, which does not give off a probability of the dealer busting. Stand when your hand is stronger than 11 and the house shows a four, five, or six cards give a probability of the dealer busting 40 percent and higher.

To double down is simply to multiply your gamble and to receive another card when you feel that you will win over the dealer. Splitting is done when you have two cards of the same type. Multiply your gamble and play a couple of hands. There are certain strategies regarding hitting, standing, doubling, or splitting, but these should be tackled as a separate unit.

5. Degree of generosity.
From time to time, you should make it a point to tip the dealer who depends very much on players' little acts of generosity. If you're winning just fine, a one dollar casino-chip every 20 or so hands is advised. To ensure that the dealer will hold your best interests, give the tip ahead, making it a side bet upon your hand. If you win, the card-dealer's tip would be doubled.
