Dynamic Hand ValueThe importance of counting and dynamic strategy.Mr. David Sklansky, an author and a professional player of poker, made a general parameter for hand rankings. This principle is not absolute but conditional because the hand value varies as the players' number in a competing group also differs. Although these guidelines may not be considered perfect laws, they are, nevertheless, considered an essential knowledge when playing poker. Usually, a player is confused on how he should play with his starting hand whenever faced with the play's dynamic fluctuation from loose to tight. This variation, therefore, affects the sum of players competing for the pot. To resolve this problem, a participant should determine a particular hand type and the quantity of participants this hand type can defeat. Poker experts categorize the hand types into three qualifications, mainly large pairs, big cards, small pairs, and suited connectors. These hand types are discussed supposing that the poker competition is a longhand limit Texas hold'em. The large pairs can either be JJ or any two cards with a higher ranking. These kind of cards are the most wanted premium hands for a player. They have a greater value and are independent of the board, thus giving the player an advantage to dominate the game. Participants commonly use this hand to raise before the initial three cards with an objective of eliminating his opponents. Although a large pair is already considered an ideal hand type, there is still a chance for it to be beaten by any card pair or hand type on the table. To avoid this defeat, a player should immediately eliminate the opponents who likewise have a strong potential of defeating him. This may be done by restricting the pot amount through raises. Another hand type is the big cards like the AQ, KQ, and AK combinations. These cards are ideal for the shorthanded games such as the Shorthand Limit Texas Holdem, but are quite disadvantageous in the longhanded plays. These cards' value is inversely proportional to the count of the group playing on the table. This means that as the sum of involved players increases, the cards value decreases. In this hand type, cards may be joined with the other board cards to form a top kicker or top pair. In such instances, a player should struggle to lower the pot size at the initial three cards and do the raises. With this condition, hanging in will be very costly for the opponents. The third hand type is the small pair and suited connectors which are grouped together due to their nearly similar playing principles. As the play's condition changes, the small pairs' value may severely fluctuate. Hence, a participant who wants to play with this hand type should go for the multi-way sum of player's wagers. The suited connectors and small pairs can dominate a game to a straight, flush, or three-of-a-kind. At first, a player may not be able to totally apply this hand ranking principles, but as he participates and competes in a poker tournament, he will eventually learn the necessary skills and sense of judgment. Such ability will certainly help him choose the right hand type from among the options provided and lead his poker bankroll to ultimate success. |
