Biography

The game of poker is known internationally.  Its appeal is universal and its rules are understood by everyone, regardless of the nations where they come from.  As such, it is of no surprise to see players from different countries face off in international competitions.  Among them, Farzad Bonyadi is a player that has risen to new heights of fame.

Who is Farzad Bonyadi?
Born on 1959, this Iranian-born professional player for poker holds an American citizenship shortly after arriving in the United States in 1983.  Farzad Bonyadi learned how to play at the young age of 7 and he was taught by his own grandfather, who was a renowned poker player.  He has a degree in agriculture, but his line of work was in the field of poker gaming.  In 1983, he decided to settle down in Los Angeles and he took a job at a casino as its proposition player.  Farzad Bonyadi or Freddy, as he is called, first worked in LA Commerce Casino as its executive host then as Hollywood Park Casino's shift manager. The pay was initially small, but he decided to turn this into a golden opportunity by sharpening his gaming skills. Today, Farzad Bonyadi has his home in Aliso Vejo in California. He also plays professional poker exclusively for Full Tilt Poker.

Farzad Bonyadi's poker career is highlighted with 3 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, 14 money finishes, and has achieved his highest ranking for the ITM at the 27th spot. For the World Poker Tour (WPT), Farzad Bonyadi has reached the final tables once while he had 8 money finishes in total. His popularity with the other players and fans started after he won $429,940 for the $2,000 1998 World Series of Poker (WSOP) event for limit hold'em.  Along the way, Farzad Bonyadi was able to defeat seasoned players John Cernuto and Mimi Tran.  During the same event, Farzad Bonyadi has also made it to the $1,500 seven card stud split final table, while he was placed in a high position during the main event of the $10,000 no limit hold'em. 

Aside from these, Farzad Bonyadi also did well during the second World Poker Tour (WPT), where he was able to finish at the 5th spot joining Phil Laak, T.J. Cloutier, Paul Phillips, Chip Jett, and Mel Judah.

As for his other WSOP bracelets, Farzad Bonyadi won them during the $1,000 deuce to seven triple draw, where he won $86,980; and the no limit hold'em tourney, where he took home $594,960.  Both events happened back in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

Farzad Bonyadi continues to enjoy the game of poker.  Since he and his wife just recently had a baby, he limits joining live tourneys and just plays poker online mostly.  His other favorite is soccer and he plays with many of the club teams in LA while following the happenings in the professional leagues.
