How to Play Video Poker

How to play free online video poker.

Video poker is no different from the common poker's concept: you need to get a good hand to win in both. As such, the five cards you choose to keep or discard may mean a win or a lose on your part.

Video poker share a lot of things with traditional poker except for the manner it is played. The thing is that in a regular poker match you compete with actual people, while in a video poker game you are up against a machine. This is exactly the reason many people prefer playing video poker than ordinary poker -- there is no intimidation, no pressure, and no brainy tricks involved. All you need to keep moving are your bankroll and poker skills. Video poker is an interesting game because it often offers progressive jackpots.

Playing the Game

Playing a game of video poker could easily bring you fortune if you know exactly what to do. Keeping a number of game strategies in mind before playing will help you make the best decision when faced with a situation. It also pays to become aware of how the game is being carried out. To help you in this regard, here is a step-by-step guide towards winning the jackpot:

    - To get you started on a video poker game, you must choose your video poker machine first. The game comes in numerous varieties and each is created with a different winning scheme. It is important that you play a game you are somewhat familiar with. Keep in mind that there is no space for experimentation when real money is involved. If you are not too confident with your poker skill and knowledge, you may download a free video poker software to practice on.

    - Once you have chosen your machine, it is time to place your bets and get the game rolling. You may choose to place a big bet or a small bet, but if you're a beginner, it's better to start with a small bet. Once you got accustomed to the game, that's the ideal time for you to make big bets.

    - Press the Deal or Draw button to start the first round of the game. Doing so will draw you five cards. Study the cards and base your next move on them.

    - Beneath each card is a Hold/Discard button. Press the appropriate one for your purpose before hitting Deal or Draw again. If you did not discard any of your cards, the video poker machine will automatically evaluate your hand and credit your winnings. If you discard some of your cards, you will be dealt with some cards to replace those you got rid of.

    - Discard and draw until you're already satisfied with your hand. After you've made your decision, the machine will evaluate your cards to determine whether or not you win. If you win, your bet or credit will be doubled, tripled or quadrupled depending on the betting scheme you chose at the start of the game, if there is any. If you lose, try your luck again with another round.

    - If you decide to stop playing, you may hit the Cash Out (sometimes Credit) button to retrieve all your deposited and accumulated credits. If you are playing online, pressing the buttons will also get you out of the game and your credits will be delivered to your bank account.
