Learning Blackjack

The way of learning the basics of black jack.

Before playing any game, it's wise to know the rules first. But gambling isn't just about playing because money is involved. When it comes to gambling, especially table games, simply knowing the rules isn't enough. Table games such as blackjack require players to develop skills which are essential to winning. Blackjack information are found in books, gambling sites, and even blogs. Beginners are strongly advised to test the waters first through online games. This gives players a boost of confidence and excellent training which are needed in playing at real casinos.

Blackjack has been a popular table game in online and real casinos. Playing the game helps players learn card counting, estimating blackjack odds, and making well-calculated decisions. To win, players must beat their dealer's hand without having to hold cards valuing more than 21. Unlike poker, the game happens between a dealer and a player only. There's no need to worry about opponents' gaming styles.

All players are given two cards each and they can take more cards during their turn. If players get more than 21, they bust because they exceed the card limit. But if they get the best hand without exceeding 21, then they win. To know the hand value, it's important to learn each card's value. Cards with numbers 2 to 10 are valued for their corresponding numbers. Cards such as King, Queen, and Jack are worth 10 each. The Ace is worth 11 if a player decides not to bust, but if he does, it's worth 1 only. Players must also remember that when a dealer busts, they also lose. This is why blackjack is believed to give the house an edge over players.

When players are dealt in, a dealer usually puts the cards face down. This happens in hand-held games, where players get to hold their cards. But for shoe games, cards are revealed right away and players can't touch their cards. After cards are dealt, the dealer waits for all players' decisions before completing his own hand. Dealers can play in two ways. One is when a dealer hits soft 17, he gets to stand on hard 17 or higher, or soft 18 or higher. The other one is when the dealer stands on all 17s. A dealer keeps on taking cards until he reaches a hand of 17 or higher.

Blackjack players should also know the difference between a Natural 21 and a 21 because they have different winnings. A player gets a Natural 21 when his first two cards are a card worth 10 and an Ace. But if he has already made a move before getting 21, then that's just a 21. Players who get a Natural 21 get a 3:2 bonus. Blackjack newbies should also learn other moves like Hitting, Standing, Surrender, Doubling Down, and Splitting. This will help in making good decisions, especially at a real game with a real dealer.
