Seahawks Could Be Hasselbeck’s Home for 2010
The Seahawks are definitely in need of a superstar to turn their game around and put them in the next playoffs. The Seattle Seahawks had a very disappointing season this year much like last year. They weren’t able to turn things around even after what they’ve experienced last year. The Seahawks’ performance this season was miserable with their 5-11 record. This was only one win better than last year with only four wins. The Seahawks only had 9 wins in the last two seasons and are without a president or a general manager. There are many questions about the team’s future, but one thing’s good for them, the season has ended – the same thing they said last year.
Hasselbeck expects to return to Seattle
When Matt Hasselbeck was asked about his expectations regarding coming back to the Seahawks, he definitely was expecting to be asked back into the franchise in 2010 even though he just set a career-high in interceptions. The 34 year-old in his 11th season threw 17 interceptions this season, setting a career-high. He had 10 turnovers in the last four games, while the offense only managed to have four touchdowns in the last four weeks.
For the last seasons, Hasselbeck has been struggling from broken ribs, a banged thumb, a bad back, and a sore throwing shoulder. He only has $5.75 million in base pay remaining in the last year of his contract. He is much needed this season as Seattle still has no franchise quarterback ready for this season. Life in the NHL is full of uncertainties because in this sports world there are non-guaranteed contract years. You could be signed for 11 years yet they could easily dump you off the next year if your performance sinks to the bottom.
Seahawks players in doubt of positions for next season
The Seahawks left tackle star Walter Jones who is recently injured. Julius Jones is also among the players who are unsure with their future with Seattle. The list of unsure players continues with Deon Grant, Rob Sims, and Deion Branch. Even T.J. Houshmandzadeh was also quoted saying, “for all I know, I could be gone next year.”
The Seahawks are still missing a decision maker as of date and they only have one candidate declared in the person of Ruston Webster. He was holding the job as the officer-in-charge since Tim Ruskell had a forced resignation on December 3. Whoever they pick as the next GM or president must decide as soon as possible regarding Hasselbeck’s future with the Seahawks. They need to make good decisions that will make this Seattle team a top contender again in the playoffs like they did back when they were a top team in the west.
