11 Automatic Bids Taken to Big Dance, 2 More Today

Of the 68 teams in the NCAA Tournament – remember, it’s 68 this year, not 65 – 31 get automatic bids for winning their conference. Thirty of those are via conference tournaments while one, the Ivy League, goes to the regular-season champion. The Ivy is the only conference that doesn’t have a conference tournament. Harvard and Princeton will face off in a one-game playoff this weekend for that berth.

Tonight two more conference tournament champions will be crowned. In the Big Sky title game, Montana faces Northern Colorado and in the Northeast Tournament Robert Morris faces Long Island.

LIU is a sizable favorite in the Northeast as the Blackbirds (26-5, 16-2) won the regular season title by three games and beat Robert Morris (18-13, 12-6) 83-67 earlier this season. In the Big Sky, Northern Colorado (20-10, 13-3) won the regular-season title by a game over Montana (21-9, 12-4) but the teams split two meetings during the season.

Here are the bids that have been claimed so far:
