An article about the said subject.

In video poker, winning jackpots requires both the stroke of luck and the skills of the player. As most video poker experts say, you need luck to draw great cards, but you need skills to get a winning hand. After all, there is no predicting what cards the machine will deal next.

To get a set of excellent cards at the initial hand, you have to be really lucky. However, the chances of this happening at every game or round is very slim. More often than not, you get a hand that is a combination of good cards and bad cards. This is where your skills and knowledge as a poker player come in handy. If you know the various video poker combinations and how to get them, you will have no problem winning.

But the thing is that a 52-card deck can render many different video poker combinations. So how do you know which ones can give you a win? If you want to find out, read on.

An example of a Royal Flush is comprised of 10 of Spades, Jack of Spades, Queen of Spades, King of Spades, and Ace of Spades.

Flush - This is a winning hand that contains five same-suit cards. The rank or value of the cards don't matter, as long as they are of similar suits. An example of a Flush is comprised of 9 of Hearts, Ace of Hearts, 4 of Hearts, Jack of Hearts, and 7 of Hearts.

Straight Flush - This hand values the suit and the order of the cards. To get a Straight Flush, you must have five consecutive cards of similar suits. An example would be 4 of Diamonds, 5 of Diamonds, 6 of Diamonds, 7 of Diamonds, and 8 of Diamonds.

Four of a Kind or Quad - This is when you get the same valued cards of all four suits in one hand. An example would be 6 of Spades, 6 of Clubs, 6 of Diamonds, 6 of Hearts, and Ace of Spades.

Three of a Kind - This is a hand that gives you three cards of similar ranks. You have a Three of a Kind if your hand is, for example, comprised of these cards: 9 of Spades, 9 of Clubs, 9 of Diamonds, 3 of Diamonds, and Queen of Hearts.
