World Poker Tour Season 3World poker tour 2004-2005. The third season of the World Poker Tour once more opens at the Aviation Club de France for the Grand Prix de Paris. The stakes are higher as poker aficionados shell out a formidable 12,000 euros to compete for a prize pool of over two million euros. This is the highest sum that has been up for grabs in the gaming history of Europe. The calm and collected Suridner Sunar makes a remarkable performance, ousting the very competitive Tony G.
The World Poker Tour moves to a new playing field at the Mirage for the Mirage Poker Showdown. Eli Elezra bags the first prize, about a million dollars, battling the match's deceiving illusions, beating poker pros Scott Nguyen and John Juanda, and gaining a seat at the championship.
This year's Legends of Poker showed the unbeatable skill of Texas native and household name Doyle Brunson, who reminded young poker whippersnappers what the game was all about. Brunson took home the prize. Months later, the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship would be held at the Bellagio with Carlos Mortensen as the winner, proving that Brunson is indeed a legend.
The Borgato Poker Open, the Bay101 Shooting Star, and the PokerStars.com Caribbean Poker Adventure were also on their sophomore appearances on this year's tournament. Daniel Negreanu, a World Poker Tour regular, snagged the million dollar poker pot in Atlantic City. Englishman John Gale, a relative newcomer to live tournaments, sailed away with $890,600 in the Caribbean. And Danny Nguyen, a local Californian poker dealer, kicked out his opponents one by one from the poker table, and ended up with $1,025,000.
The UltimateBet's Aruba Poker Classic, the World Poker Finals, the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, and the World Poker Open have become staples in the World Poker Tournament. This year's victors are the silent yet strategic Eric Brenes, the young and unpredictable Tuan Le, the tournament player of the year Daniel Negreanu, and the aggressive 23-year-old John Stolzmann.
The L.A. Poker Classic and the World Poker Tour Invitationals at the Commerce Casino, Party Poker Million on the Cortez Sea of Mexico, and the World Poker Challenge at the Hilton were also on their third year. Michael Mizrachi from Florida and Costa Rican Alex Brenes were lucky in the Commerce Casino, Michael Gracz cruised away in Mexico with his $1.5 million, and Californian Arnold Spee sped away with the World Poker Challenge pot.
They say that the third time is a charm and for the World Poker Tour Championship, luck would be on Tuan Le's side who also won earlier in the tournament in the World Poker Finals. As Season 3 drew to a close, another season has ended for poker players worldwide and the status of poker as a world-class event has been proven once more.
