Professionals have proven that to win poker games, one must have a vast background in the field. Exposure, combined with knowledge, helps a gamer to finish tables in any card room. Many believe that long years of playing poker is needed to be a full-fledged poker master. However, Julian Gardner does not seem to agree with this idea. Being the youngest millionaire in the league, Julian proves to the world that in poker, age does not matter.
Julian Gardner, who is also called as The Kid, is a native of Manchester, England. Being a poker enthusiast may be considered a family trait of Gardners. Julian followed the steps of his dad Dave who was also a poker pro in the United Kingdom. Julian first entered a casino when he was only 15 with his dad. Julian's poker know-hows came from his experiences in local casinos. His first out of town tournament happened in Amsterdam where he won about $22,000. After graduating from high school, he instantly became a professional poker player, and when he reached 20, he had finished off 10 tournaments. In addition to that, he had made over 20 final tables a year later, and no one was able to stop him from winning.
In the year 2000, first-timer Julian Gardner joined the renowned World Series of Poker's (WSOP). During the game, he immediately became a cheap leader for two hours. However, Julian did not last through the day and was sent off early by other players. Numerous poker fans and analysts were expecting him to be on the WSOP final table in 2001, but Julian did not appear on the tournament.
After Julian's absence in the 2001 WSOP, he placed second in the said world tournament in 2002 where he beat over 800 players. His success made him the youngest poker player to bag $1,000,000 in a game. Julian's one-million dollar triumph was followed by other poker winnings. At the WSOP main event in the years 2003 and 2004, he finished in the money where he swept other known poker pros. This achievement made him the only poker pro to place first in the tourney in 2002 to 2004.
In addition to his early winnings, Julian also became a 2005 WSOP qualifier on the Betfair website, but he failed to win the Main Event's in the money in 2005. However, his loss was compensated by other triumphs like when he won four money finishes in other WSOP categories like the $5,000 No Limit Hold-Em event. He also became a runner-up at the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha where Barry Greenstein finished first.
Moreover, Julian Gardner also appeared on poker TV series like the Late Night Poker. He is also a part of the 888.com Poker Nations Cup winning team. At such a young age, he has been contributing in coaching poker starters through co-authoring the book, The Secrets of Online Power Poker, with Padraig Parkinson and Scott Gray.
Other interesting trivia about Julian Gardner is that he does not like to travel just to join tournaments. He only goes out of town when he makes it on the Net competitions. He is also engaged to Kerry "Pint Size" Clarke, another poker pro, whom he eliminated during the 888.com UK Poker Open in 2005.
