Biography

In a poker match, there are different strategies to apply in a game of wit, skills, and money. However, there are only a few players who can have all the winning qualities of a champion. One name that stands out when it comes to excellent poker play is Layne Flack.

Born in the South Dakota state and grew up in Montana, Flack has the making of a champion early on in his life. After graduating from high school, Flack first worked at the Billings, Montana casino, which had a video poker machine and some poker tables. After working at the casino for six months, Flack became the night manager. During this time, he was also playing poker at the nearby casinos during his free time. In college, Flack took a business degree program and was paying his college tuition fees with his poker winnings. Soon after, he decided to leave college to pursue a poker career. Flack thought that staying in college seems useless when he was already earning a hefty sum of money. With his poker winnings, Flack engaged in running poker matches in Montana. In one of his engagements, he met the poker master and fellow Montanan Huck Seed. This meeting was significant because it was Seed who encouraged Flack to try playing poker in Las Vegas. Going to Vegas was the start of bigger things for Flack. Six weeks after meeting Seed, Flack started playing in his very first Vegas game in a Hall of Fame poker match and was declared as the second winner. Then, Flack met another poker legend Johnny Chan, who eventually became a good mentor to him.

In 2002, Flack garnered several tournament recognitions and honors. He played and won in both the World Series tournaments --a $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em match and a $1,500 No-Limit game. Two top wins mean two poker gold bracelets. The following year, Flack joined a Celebrity Invitational match at the Los Angeles Commerce Casino. In this event, Flack made a monumental win over Jerry Bus, the owner of the basketball team LA Lakers. After winning that night, Flack was found sitting at the owner's area at Lakers basketball games. To this day, Buss would jokingly point to Flack as the one Buss made famous.

Flack is known as a competitive and mysterious player. Most players would develop skills in reading other poker players during the game, but Flack has a different game play. He would study how the other players read him. Flack is also famous for his grin, making him a difficult player to read in poker tables. His charisma comes from not being predictable with his card moves. This strategy seems to be working well for Flack. To date, Flack has a total of five World Series of Poker gold bracelets. Moreover, he has made remarkable first place winnings in other big poker matches. There are times when Flack would end up in the second and third ranking, but the cash he makes are enough to recognize him as a champion.
