Biography

Liz Lieu is one of the few women who has made a big name in the world of poker. In fact, her popularity among poker aficionados worldwide continues to grow. With Liz's superb poker skills plus her glamorous image, it seems that no one can simply get enough of her. Indeed, Liz Lieu is today's "Poker Diva."

Liz was born on August 2, 1974 in Vietnam, but she grew up in Colorado. Prior to her big break in the world of poker, she used to work as a dealer an a Las Vegas casino. Eventually, she decided to try her own luck in the game after understanding and learning how to play professional poker.

Liz became Pro in 2001, but she played her first major game during the 2005 World Series of Poker, which was held in Las Vegas a few weeks before her 31st birthday. Although she was one of the new faces in the world tournament, she had all the necessary skills and experience to reach up to the final table of the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. But she won the interest and attention of more people after she had finished fifth in the game. Until now, Liz continues to win the hearts of many poker fans, thanks to her great skills and attractive looks.

For those who do not know it, Liz actually started playing poker 12 years before she made her big debut in the 2005 World Series of Poker. At the age of 18, she began to play Chinese poker. She eventually shifted to Texas Hold'em after she had learned about the game through her exposures in casinos and by watching other poker players. In fact, she even used to manage a home game where in she was the dealer. This stint, which she did for a friend, gave her more opportunities to better understand poker and learn the best tricks in playing the game.

After improving her skills, Liz decided to become Pro and played cash games in 2001. She made the move in order to support herself, as well as her parents. Her decision proved to be right since she quickly rose as one of the best and most successful players in Los Angeles in terms of high stakes cash games. In fact, she even earned a good reputation at the Bellagio, which is among her favorite spots in Las Vegas.

Liz can play many variations of poker. But she prefers Texas Hold'em especially when there is money involved. It does not matter whether it is a tournament or a mere side game. In fact, after placing fifth during the 2005 WSOP, she became more hooked with poker and has been spending most of her time joining the tournament circuit or Hold'em cash games.

Although Liz enjoys her success and immense popularity in the poker world, she says that participating in big and international tournaments, as well as high stakes cash games, is very tough. According to her, playing poker is very far from the glamorous image that has been associated with her. Liz says that poker is a demanding game and that players must make a big sacrifice in order to achieve success. But the attractive player says that she is determined to earn herself a bracelet and that she is optimistic of her future in poker.
