Perhaps, the next best thing for being a lawyer is knowing how to read minds and play the cards right against poker rivals. This is the strategy that has won Mark Seif his recognition in different poker tournaments. The precision of his moves and popular bluffing techniques earned him the respect of poker enthusiasts and spectators who admiringly watch him play. For Mark Seif, poker is all about taking risks while turning the odds of defeat into his own advantage for a major win.
Born on October 4, 1967 in Cairo, Egypt, Mark Seif first laid his hands on a poker card when he was just six years old. He bluffed his father for a win, but was sent to his room as punishment for his tricks. Barely did his family realize the making of a future poker superstar already unfolds before their very eyes. But before turning into a master of his own game, Mark Seif first finished school at UCLA before he earned his law degree at Loyola University Law School. Needless to say, he was a prosecuting attorney before he gambled his chances in the porker circuit. It was a risky move for Mark Seif's career, but his expertise only proved to be his own ace in making his opponents tremble on the poker table.
According to Seif, practicing law and playing poker have so much in common. They both share similar values for defeat and winning against the opponent. From being a lawyer, Seif is also more perceptive of what other players may be thinking for their next moves. He reads them like a book and he only knew too well when to bluff or play with the odds. The way Mark Seif takes his chances is one that is most impressive about him. He said that bluffing is like cracking an egg. For most parts, it could be a pretty simple task. But, what if you are to use a sledge hammer? This is the art of bluffing, at least, based on the American poker master's experience and wit in playing.
In 2003, Seif made it to several final tables and the top spot in four outstanding competitive challenges, which include his first ever WSOP money finish for the $3,000 No-Limit Hold'Em match. But before that, he first gained popularity when he finished in 4th place for August, 2002's World Poker Tour (WPT) event. However, the real highlight of his poker career came when this poker star won not only one but two prestigious WSOP bracelets for $1,500 No Limit Hold'Em challenge and of course, the $1,500 Limit Hold'Em Shootout.
This American poker player also loves the camera. In fact, he's always been thankful for having a televised poker where more people can watch them play and even appreciate their skills. But apart from playing poker on TV, Seif enjoys playing poker online as well. He's the official spokesman for Absolute Poker and a commentator for Professional Poker Tour series aired on TV. For 2005, his over-all live poker tournament winnings are roughly estimated to exceed $1,700,000. His clever strategy and bluffing schemes on the poker table rightfully earned him his nickname as "The Shark."
