Blackjack has been around for years and is a very popular game for those looking for level odds and reasonable payouts. But for those that are new to the game, learning the language and maintaining your composure can be difficult. Here, we have compiled a guide of everything you need to know before beginning to play Blackjack.

The Origins Of the Game

The origins of the game are something that is highly debated amongst enthusiasts with many saying that the game dates back as far as the 1700s in France. Or even as far back as the roman empire but the game we know and love today is completely different as the rules are more modernised. For example, there were believed to be more betting rounds than there are in the current blackjack games and the dealer was allowed to double if they wished to.

Though this is completely different from modern-day Blackjack, many enjoy the thrill of the game as the odds are oftentimes far more balanced in modern casinos. With these working at (3:2) many heads to the blackjack table to try and win big every time.

How To Play

A game of Blackjack is all about strategy and considering all the possibilities to move strategically and expect the greatest return but with a number of different strategies to choose from as well as a wide range of outcomes, learning the rules can be difficult. With a number of casinos as well as a number of opportunities to play blackjack online, you can pick up the rules and begin to win games no matter where you are.

The game of blackjack is paid against the house with the objective of taking cards to get as close to the value of 21 without exceeding it. If you beat the dealer’s hand, then you walk away richer. However, exceeding 21 will cause you to bust meaning that you will forfeit immediately regardless of the hand that the dealer has at the time. Therefore, it is a game of calculated risks as hitting too many times can lead you to exceed the limit of 21.

Learning Card Values

When playing Blackjack for the first time, it is important to be aware of the card values. Not only will this help you to play at home with friends, but it will help you to learn the rules much faster and win larger jackpots due to your experience level.

Kings, Queens And Jacks (Face Cards) – these are worth 10 points each.

Numbered Cards 2-10 – These retain their face value regardless of the colour or the club.

Aces – these hold the value of either 11 or 1 depending on which is better suited to the player.

Once you have learned the rules and are aware of the card values, you can then begin to bet larger amounts and gain your confidence when playing the game which is always a benefit.

Tips And Tricks

Understanding Pay-outs – there are a number of pay-outs in Blackjack, one of the best being 1:1 pay-out. This is where you will receive the amount you bet times 2 when you win. For example, betting £5 and winning will result in you winning back your initial £5 with another £5 added on top.

Blackjack Pay-out – if you are lucky enough to win on a blackjack ( a card to the value of 10 and an ace) you will then receive a pay-out at 3:2, this is, therefore, boosting your winnings. If you bet £20 you would then receive that as well as an addition £25 on top. This is one of the best ways to win as you will begin to rack up a large sum.

There are also a number of other betting options that can be implemented by the house to sweeten the deal, however, the two mentioned above are the most prominent with the best possible pay-out.

Don’t Risk It All- Another tip is to not risk it when playing blackjack. Though it is part of the fun to risk sometimes, the odds are very level in this game, therefore it may be more beneficial to play it safe and take the winnings. However, by splitting doubling down and implementing other tactics, you can be sure to make the most of your winning every time.

Terms That You Should Know

When playing Blackjack there are a number of key terms that you should know. Some of them are the following:

Hit - To hit means you request another card from the dealer to get you closer to the total of 21

Stand – To stand means that you are satisfied with your current hand and are not looking to gain any more cards as the risk is too high and will likely result in you losing.

Double Down- Doubling down is allowed straight after the first two cards are dealt and are where the player is allowed to place an additional bet equal to the original wager. The player will then receive one more card and stand. He or she then cannot ask for any more hits after his third card.

Split-  If your first two cards are of equal value you can then split them into separate hands. Once you have split your hand, the dealer will then hit you with cards on each of the splits. Though the rules are slightly different depending on the table that you are on, you are generally not allowed to hit, double down or re-split following the initial split, leaving them with a total of 2 cards per hand.

Surrender – This is offered when the dealers up card is an ace or are the value of 10. When a player surrenders, half of their bet is then forfeited to the house with the round ending. A new round will then commence following this.

Insurance – When the dealers up-card is an ace a player can take out insurance against the chance that the dealer has blackjack. This is limited to half of the original bet and typically pays out at around 2:1.

Push -  This is when the dealer and the player come out with the same total and therefore no money changes hands.

With this in mind, there are a number of ways that you can begin your career in blackjack with a well-implemented strategy and a number of options available you can play this old-time favourite in no time.
