Richard is an old German name which means "powerful leader". The parents of Richard Schwartz surely wanted their son to gain power and the gift of leadership, but little did they know that their son would be a powerful leader, albeit in a different field. The name Richard Schwartz, to poker buffs around the world, means a great poker player.
Richard Schwartz grew up in Las Vegas, the most congested city in Nevada. Aside from being an internationally-recognized vacation and shopping spot, the city where Schwartz came from is also a gambling mecca. As the Entertainment Capital of the World, Las Vegas has an abundant stock of the most famous and extravagant casino resorts. Surrounded by people who regularly visit casino centers and exposed to a society that permits gambling, Schwartz obtained an intense interest in playing poker games.
Like any other novices, Shwartz did not start his poker career already on top. He slowly worked his way to up the ladder of his chosen field of interest. As a student of the game, he first learned the rules of the game. He was also taught that position in poker is very important as it affects the game. Because of this, he strived hard to learn the ideal position in a certain game. He would observe how people played in casino and would analyze their moves and try to figure out why people lose and how people win. He also learned the different events in the game.
Good Training and Patience Pay Off
Since Schwartz spent a lot of his precious time absorbing the rules, strategies, and joy of the game, all achievements he got out of this field is truly hard-earned. In most of the games he played, Schwartz landed a piece of success. Although he would not always win the topmost spot, to simply win a place in many poker game events is something anyone can be truly proud of.
The best achievement of Schwartz so far is a World Series of Poker bracelet. In 1977, he won 1st place in the World Series of Poker Limit Razz event. He also proceeded to won 13th place in the same event in 1990. In the 1991 World Series of Poker No Limit Hold'em event, Schwartz ended up in the 17th place. When he joined the World Series of Poker Limit Razz again in 2001, he got the 5th place. In the same year, he also bagged the 6th place of the Four Queen Poker Classic Limit 7 Card Stud event and the 2nd place in the Four Queens Poker Classic Limit Hold'em. In 2003, he won 18th place in the World Series of Poker No Limit Hold 'em. In 2007, he had three victories: 14th place in the No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 43rd place in World Series of Poker Limit Hold'em, and 6th place in the Deep Stack Extravaganza Poker Pages Ranking Omaha Hi/Lo event.
Richard has truly been a powerful leader in his chosen arena. His parents might not know that he'll turn out to be one when he was still young, but they must be proud for choosing the right name for their son.
