Roulette Odds

A look at rule roulette odds and bets.

It is a fact that winning in the game of roulette is like climbing Mount Everest. Aside from luck, an individual should have all the necessary tools needed in order to overcome the huge advantage that the house has over the players. When it comes to roulette, one has to be well-prepared to tackle any situation that one might encounter during the game. The player should be aware of the odds he will face and must consider them carefully to be able to determine the amount of bet to make. This way, he would be able to assess when to bet high or low. Faced with tough roulette odds, the gambler must be versatile enough to survey the situation and adapt his roulette system to achieve his ultimate objective of maximum wins and minimal loss.

One of the most important thing that a player should bear in mind when determining roulette odds is the kind of wheel being used. There are two varieties of roulette namely the American and European version. The layout and the odds offered by these two are slightly different. Roulette wheels -- called American or double-zero wheel -- commonly found in most casinos in the United States have a zero and double-zero, thus increasing the number of slots to 38. The exception to this rule, however, is the 0-00-1-2-3 bet, which increases the odds to 7.89.

On the other hand, the European wheel eliminates the double zero slot, thereby decreasing the number of slots to 37. American roulette provides an odd of 5.26% as compared to the 2.7% of the European variety. It is worth noting that in some casinos adopting the European wheel, the "en prison" rule is in effect. With this rule, the odds can drop to as low as 1.3%, which will, of course, depend on the modification to the rule being applied. This policy is applied to outside bets or in instances when the zero or double zero pops up. Here, the player is given an option to either lose half of their bet or have their bets be "put in prison". Technically, this means that the individual loses the bet in succession whenever the zero or double zero appears.

Roulette odds likewise have something to do with wagers and payouts. Generally, all casinos found in the United States, except those located in Atlantic City, adopt similar payout charts. Roulette odds also play a crucial role in determining the minimum and maximum bet.

One cannot deny the fact that the primary motivation of most gamblers is to overcome these odds. But at the same time, it is these same odds that are keeping some people away from the game. The ability to analyze or calculate odds is a skill that requires much time and effort to develop. Taking advantage of free roulette games greatly helps an individual learn the skill of studying roulette odds.

Aside from the free roulette games, another way of developing the skill of analyzing the odds is by downloading the roulette software for further study. In the end, by learning how to read the odds, an individual can find a way to adjust his bet thus giving himself a better chance of winning.
