Here's a caution to male poker enthusiasts. If you spot a bombshell in couture with matching huge Christian Dior sunglasses enter a room, guard your chips, fellas. This pretty lady isn't there to look cute; she's there to beat the chips off you at a poker game. The lady is Vanessa Rousso, also known as "The Lady Maverick of Poker" because of her cunning skills on the game. Finishing 7th-place in the World Poker Tour World Championship 2006, this lady is definitely not the type anyone would want to mess with. But poker is not the only thing Vanessa is good at. It would impress anyone to know that Vanessa is a cum laude graduate of Duke University with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and is currently a student on full scholarship at the University of Miami School of Law.
'Lady Maverick' was born on February 5, 1983 in White Plains, New York, but she spent her early childhood in Paris, France. When her parents divorced in 1992, Vanessa moved with her mom to Wellington, Florida in the United States. While her mom got a job in the local high school as a guidance counselor, Vanessa tried to acclimatize herself to her new surrounding.
After middle school, Vanessa attended the Wellington High School where she was constantly active in extracurricular activities while all the while maintaining her good grades. She even joined the school's swimming, lacrosse, softball, and basketball teams. Definitely a girl with an above-average intelligence, Vanessa graduated from high school with flying colors: she was her batch's Valedictorian.
Because of her excellent scholastic records, Vanessa obtained a full scholarship at Duke University where she had Economics as her major and Political Science as her minor. Her Economics education allowed her to learn about game theory. This became instrumental to her future success in poker.
In reality, Vanessa already know how to play the game at the early age of five, but it was in college that she became drawn with the game. While finishing her degree, she spent her free time playing chess and backgammon. However, the lure of poker was too strong for Vanessa to resist that she soon found herself playing it online. Even after she graduated cum laude at Duke University, Vanessa's passion for poker remained.
Vanessa's big break in poker came in 2005 when she and her ex-beau, Ross Romash, traveled all the way to New Orleans to check out the Harrah's New Orleans Poker Challenge World Series of Poker Circuit tournament. In the $200 No Limit Texas Hold'em, Rousso was able to play at the final table before getting eliminated. During the entire process, Rousso managed to amass $6,465, becoming the youngest woman to participate in a WSOP Circuit final table.
After that WSOP Circuit victory, Vanessa went on to win more tournaments before she finally got a seat to the World Poker Tour's Five-Star Poker Classic's $25,000 main event in 2006. She arrived there 3 hours late, but she still competed and bested several other poker professionals up until only seven players were left. Even though Vanessa was the first of the seven to get eliminated, it was all good since she immediately became known, not to mention $263,625 richer, in the poker circuit. At present, Vanessa can be seen playing online poker at Poker Stars. She currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada and is also dating fellow poker professional Chad Brown.
