Biography

William Thorson, born on 1983, is a Swedish professional poker player. Thorson learned how to play card games at an early age. Even though he graduated from high school and was qualified to pursue a degree in economics, he decided that going after academic pursuits wasn't right for him. His love of games led him to discover poker and with the help from his father, he started winning some tournaments.

How William Thorson started playing poker

He began by playing poker online, starting out at play money tables in PokerStars since 2002 and playing under the screen name "William." It wasn't long before Thorson began playing at an international level. He's come a long way from simply depositing $50 for a game of poker. Nowadays, he can enter tournaments with buy-ins of $10,000. He has also made it to the final table at several major tournaments, including two European Poker Tour events. As a poker player, Thorson is considered a serious threat to his opponents due to his confident image and aggressive playing style.

William Thorson's achievements in poker tournaments

Thorson participated in the October 2004 Ladbrokes Poker Cruise tournament, placing ninth in the No-Limit Hold'em event. This earned him the attention of the poker world because he was still relatively a newcomer in the poker scene. He also entered the LA Poker Classic World Poker Tour Season 3, in which he made the final table at the No-Limit Hold'em event and eventually finished fifth, winning $36,557 in the process. 

Since then, Thorson has made a name for himself in professional poker, cashing in at various major poker events across the world. He got his biggest winnings in the World Series of Poker when he nearly made it to the final table of the WSOP main event in 2006. Placing at 13th in a field composed of 8,773 players, he earned a whopping $907,128. The following year, he also played in the WSOP, where he cashed twice and was part of the final table during the $5,000 Limit Hold’em event, where he won $136,493.

During the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure European Poker Tour Season 4, Thorson placed ninth and earned $120,000. He also finished sixth and got $184,273 at the San Remo European Poker Tour when he played in the No-Limit Hold'em event. He also fared well in the €5,000 No Limit Hold’em event at EPT Dublin in 2006, finishing at third place and garnering $232,340. As of 2008, Thorson's winnings from live tournaments already amount to more than $1,800,000.

He also loves spending time with friends and playing sports.
